Sound familiar? Well, if it does it’s because this private story archive represents another feature copied from Snapchat – Snapchat’s Memories (released last year).

Instagram is rolling this new private archive of your Instagram stories globally on Android and iOS. Starting now, they will start adding all of your expired stories to your archive.

Their version of Memories is dubbed Highlights.

Instagram is rolling out a private archive of the ephemeral stories you have posted in the app. Starting today, Instagram will begin to add your expired stories to the archive feature, which until now has been used only to house photos and videos you no longer want to display on your public profile. The stories archive, which you will be able to opt out of, is being introduced globally on Android and iOS.

According to Instagram, a significant (undisclosed) number of users downloaded their stories daily, and many intended on doing so but forgot to do so within 24 hours. Your archive will not only remain there for your memories but Instagram is also allowing you to click a photo to post it back on your story.

When your story archive is available, you will receive a notification within the app. Instagram will not begin saving any of your stories until that notification appears. You are also given the option to opt out if you choose.
